a chat with mina mine....
How did you meet?
Daniella came to the US from Brazil with her family in 2014. Taking this opportunity to reinvent in something she always dreamed of, she studied jewelry technique and training in design. In 2017, coming to Glenview, IL to a warm welcoming classroom for her son, as the children all wanted to meet the Brazilian boy! Kirsten’s son came home that first day in the spring to declare he had met his best friend. The boys’ friendship connected them, as they learned about our shared interests in art and design.
When did you get the idea to create your business?
We shared for fun, learning jewelry techniques and sharing materials for something to keep busy. We wanted to share what we were doing with the women in our community. We started by wearing the pieces we were making and collaborated with other local artisans doing unique handmade accessories with some local events. The brand was born with the idea to share and when we saw that first gold crochet bracelet, Mina Mine was born.
Why focus on Crochet Jewelry?
In 2018, Daniella received the gold bracelet made with the wire crochet. We were both amazed at the beauty and had never seen anything like it! We can do this! Off to the store for supplies and some self taught attempts in wire crochet proved how failure sometimes leads you to the right place… Our pieces didn’t have that effortless pattern & after realizing that this technique takes years of practice we started searching. We found our artisans in Brazil, collaborating with the women who bring our dreams to life. A sketch, an idea & time… how patience is a requirement, as some pieces take weeks to make and time to travel here from afar. Truly unique and cared for from start to finish, crochet jewelry shows the care in each loop made by it’s artist.
How do I care for it?
Although light and delicate, the crochet wire is sturdy and strong, feminine and fierce! Handle and care for it as fine jewelry & prevent expose to prolonged water, detergents & soaps. Although we truly inspect and care for each piece, we realize these are handmade and can require a repair at times. If so, just contact us as we have been trained in our clasps and adjustments to keep your piece
